We spoke to Paul about his experience caring for his father and how it shaped his view of responsibility, choice, and personal strength.
When you were looking after your dad, what did you learn about yourself during that experience?
Paul: “I learned I’m capable of a lot more than I thought. At the time, it felt like too much — but somehow, I handled it. You don’t get given anything you can’t get through. One day at a time, you just… keep going. And in the middle of it all, I found a kind of strength I didn’t know I had.”
What advice would you give someone about caregiving?
Paul: ““Don’t take it all on alone. And remember, you’re making a choice every time — even when it feels like you have no choice. Stay present, and do it with all your heart"
