During the conversation, we spoke to Sandra who shared her personal journey as a caregiver for her husband with heart problems. Sandra discussed the challenges of managing daily tasks, medications, and emotional support while dealing with her own health.
Sandra: "I look after my husband, who's got heart problems. I sort out all these medications and everything. It is hard, like when he was in hospital, had heart bypass and everything - that was really hard to cope with, and a big shock. But gradually, over time, you get used to it, and you think, 'Well, I have to step up to look after him. Otherwise, he wouldn't be very good looking after himself."
"It is tiring, you know. And you have your own health problems as well. So it is tiring. You can't afford to let things slip. You've got to keep on top of everything - washing, shopping, sorting medications - even if you're not 100% yourself. You've got to step up your game."
